SABLE LITFEST RE-LAUNCHES IN THE MBOKA FESTIVAL
IN THE GAMBIA WITH HBF AS BOOKFAIR PARTNER
After 10, years the SABLE Literary Festival that was launched in The Gambia in 2007 is relaunching, as part of a fantastic new collaboration, the Mboka Festival of Arts, Culture and Sport. The Mboka Festival takes place between 7-17 January 2017 with partners Global Hands and Camp Africa.
Mboka means ‘One Family’ in Wolof and Sable LitFest is proud to be a partner of this remarkable new festival. Mboka has brought together like-minded people to join hands to produce a 10 day festival of distinction and diversity that celebrates Gambian cultural heritage alongside African diasporic cultural heritage. Each partner will introduce a selected charitable cause that will be supported from funds raised within the festival.
Sable LitMag first international literary festival in The Gambia, featured award winning writers such as Jack Mapanje (Malawi) Binyavanga Wainana (Kenya) and Doreen Baigana (Uganda). The 2017 festival will feature no less esteemed African literary personas from the continent and the diaspora with a special highly acclaimed writer, soon to be named.
The international literary Festival will be programmed by SABLE LITMAG, incorporating local and international authors published by Global Hands and the vibrant performance poetry scene of young poets in The Gambia. The programme will incorporate workshops, panel discussions, readings and launches of new books.
The international bookfair will be co-ordinated by the experienced team of the Harlem Book Fair based in New York. The SABLE/Harlem Book Fair has already attracted African publishers based in the US and UK and will be the first international bookfair on the Harlem Book Fair circuit with others planned to follow.
